SubjectToClimate to launch Connecticut Climate Education Hub

Connecticut Climate Education Hub

SubjectToClimate has developed a new resource hub designed to support Connecticut educators in integrating climate education across all grade levels and subjects.

The Connecticut Climate Education Hub (CTclimatehub.org) will utilize the digital infrastructure of SubjectToClimate’s Core Platform to provide free, credible, and engaging climate change education resources. The Hub will include:

  • High-quality teaching resources (e.g., readings, curricular materials, audiovisual media, activities) aligned with Connecticut state standards
  • Exemplar lesson plans created by educators across all grade levels and subjects
  • Links to Connecticut-specific and general professional learning opportunities
  • Climate change news articles for students, differentiated by grade level
  • Climate Change Explainers, developed in partnership with MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, designed to answer climate change and pedagogical questions

In 2022, Connecticut passed a law that required climate change to be taught as part of its statewide K-12 science curriculum. In addition,  This legislation aligned with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s Environmental Literacy Plan, to foster long-term environmental action through education and decision-making.

Jim Clifford, a long-time Connecticut educator and the founder of the nonprofit “Exploring Climate,” has been instrumental in shaping the Connecticut Climate Education Hub. His efforts include leading the development of new Connecticut social studies standards, unanimously adopted by the Connecticut State Board of Education,  that incorporate climate change, environmental literacy, and environmental justice in K-12 social studies classes. Jim’s work has been supported by SubjectToClimate since July 2023 to help educators navigate these legislative shifts. 

SubjectToClimate's mission to integrate climate education has thrived through strategic partnerships and local collaborations. In Connecticut, the organization took a grassroots approach, working directly with local educators and nonprofits to form the Connecticut Advisory Committee.
