Teaching tips

Positives

  • The images within this resource are emotionally impactful and are centered around people who are affected by climate change.
  • The image library contains a search feature under the home tab to quickly find images within a certain topic.

Additional Prerequisites

  • Downloading or obtaining images entails a brief registration process requiring email address, name, and country, and creating a password.
  • It may be helpful to read "About Climate Visuals" before using the images to learn more about Climate Outreach and the climate visuals project.

Differentiation

  • Provide students with the opportunity to investigate the seven core principles for climate change communication.
  • Pair students up and have them choose an article in the "News" tab to read, then discuss new learning and write a brief summary.
  • Under the "Climate Outreach" tab, have students watch the animated videos and then discuss new learning in groups.
  • Since this resource aims to capture authentic images, as well as to represent Indigenous people, consider using these images to support another resource, such as Introduction to Indigenous Climate Solutions.
  • Have students use the "Collections" tab to do a deeper dive into a specific theme, writing about observations and emotions experienced while viewing the images.
  • This image library could be used to supplement a language arts research project on climate change or to provide people-centered visuals to bring other climate topics to life for students.

From the scientist review

This resource is a website that provides students with over 1,000 images that capture what climate change looks like. This resource would be a great addition to a classroom discussion on climate change. The photos help to provide visual cues and details that help students comprehend the effects of climate change and develop their own interpretations. The use of photos in explaining climate change effects can help students develop critical thinking skills by encouraging them to analyze and interpret visual information.
