Synopsis
In this lesson, students learn about common misconceptions that contribute to climate change denial and practice responding to these claims by creating a comic strip that addresses climate denial.
Students can use what they learn in this lesson to have important conversations with climate deniers in their community.
This lesson uses the resource Have the Talk: Climate Conversations Guide to provide a detailed framework for how students can have productive conversations using OARTAC (Open, Ask, Reflect, Tell, Ask, Close).
Additional Prerequisites
Students should know the basics of climate change and global warming to support this activity.

Differentiation
The lesson includes two extension activities that can be used to deepen the lesson, for early finishers, or to be assigned as homework.
Challenge students to have actual conversations with people in their community using the framework provided and report back on how it went.
Teachers can display the comic strips in the classroom or around the school. Students can then vote on their favorite comics to be published on the school website or in a newsletter.
